Winter, or Sheet Ritu, is characterized by cold, dry weather. During this season, Kapha dosha, associated with water and earth elements, tends to accumulate. To balance Kapha, Ayurveda recommends a routine that is warm, dry, and stimulating.
Diet:
Daily Routine: Wake up early, around sunrise. Engage in gentle exercises like yoga and meditation. Oil massage (Abhyanga) with warm sesame oil can be very beneficial.
Activities: Avoid excessive sleep and sedentary activities. Engage in light physical activity like walking or gentle yoga.
Clothing: Wear warm, layered clothing to protect yourself from the cold.
Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of restful sleep.
Additional Tips:
Ayurvedic Herbs: Consider incorporating warming herbs like ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon into your diet or as herbal teas.
Nasya: Nasal oil administration can help alleviate congestion and dryness.
Shirodhara: A gentle oil pouring therapy on the forehead can be very relaxing and balancing.
